Fire Drill gone bad

So I was warming some white chicken chili that I has pulled out of the freezer. I had turned the heat on hi so the it would boil and melt the frozen chunks. Anyway Aaron called me upstairs for some help, and I got distracted until I started to smell burning. I run downstairs to see the whole downstairs filled with smoke! Gasp-where were the children!!!...yeeah they were in the middle of the smoke filled room playing on the computer! Oh my gosh!!! I have no idea what they were thinking, or weren't for that matter. When I asked them how long it had been smoking/smelling- about five minutes. AAAAHHH! No, there was no fire, but they didn't know that for sure. Needless to say we had a little sit down on fire safety, which I thought that we had already done. Obviously we needed a refresher course! Now I am not trying avoid responsibility here. If I hadn't left the chili on hi and then forgot about it, none of this would of happened, I get that. But SERIOUSLY, a simple shout out "Mom something smells" or "Mom, the kitchen is smoking" would have been nice! I can't even let myself think "What if"

This is not a picture of my house- but you get the picture!

I totally though that was your house, and was thinking--man she was smart enough to have grabbed her camera before leaving:)

Yikes! That's a scary! Did you have them jump out the window just for practice-like in the picture?! :)

PS-that was supposed to say "that's scary!" And I LOVE your new family and individual kid pictures! Your kids are gorgeous! Does Aaron have a gun yet?! He's going to need it!

Only you!!! I think we should all go over fire safety again with our kids. Thanks for the reminder...

I thought it was your house too. I scorch things all the time. The waffle iron is my favorite thing to leave on til it starts smoking! Always good to remind the kids about safety.

Did you still eat the chicken chili?
I won't even start on smoky food kitchen stories. Let's just say that it's always a good idea to "review" smoke and fire safety procedures. Glad it turned out ok.

Nothing like putting on your Sunday clothes and not realizing until you are sitting in church that you smell like the burnt chili from last week.

Wait for it. It's coming. (:

Thanks for chatting last night.
